Bred by Ellerslie Hop Estate, Melba is affectionately known as "The Dame of Hops". It is a dual purpose hop with a high oil content and has similarities to Galaxy. When used as a bittering hop early in the boil, it imparts a clean somewhat spicy bitterness. Used as a flavour or aroma addition, it contributes passionfruit, grapefruit and citrus.
